Inside of my ankle. Easy to hide, easy to show, and I can see it.

My friend who recently died of colon cancer at 50 was a vegan who focused on healthy eating and exercise through her entire adulthood. We need to try our best but sometimes doing all the right things isn’t enough.

The sonograms don’t bother me because they’re not painful. I find it hard to believe that they couldn’t come up with a less painful way to do a mammogram. They would never screen for testicular cancer like that. “Put them between these plates and we’ll crank them as hard as we can.”

Mine are always painful and awful. And they make us change into a johnny before we sit in the waiting room, which I think is humiliating and unnecessary. I’ve never seen a man required to be partially undressed in a public part of a medical facility.

As a K-12 teacher I get the “never put something in an email that you wouldn’t want read back to you in court” lecture every year.

An alarming number of young women who work in my school have been diagnosed with breast cancer recently. I was way overdue for a mammogram too but I have one scheduled soon.

I lost a dear friend to colon cancer this fall. She had just turned 50 and had been battling it for years.

Is a rotisserie chicken a splurge now? I thought we were allowed to have a piece of chicken with our tortilla, broccoli, and something else?

My students tell me that saying “don’t panic” as I hand out new music isn’t as reassuring as I think it is.

Age verification? I know how to use a rotary phone.

My super high achieving band nerd students hate this course so much. The amount of crying honor students in my classroom every spring is alarming. These are kids who love almost every class and aren’t afraid of hard work.

It wasn’t his hard drive. The complete disregard for his wife and her work is the jaw dropping part for me. He didn’t do this stupid experiment on his own work, he used it on hers.

Every time I see men’s figure skating, “What Would Brian Boitano Do?” runs through my head.
Possibly the most random but complimentary song I’ve ever heard. I wish one of them would skate to it.

Lift Every Voice and Sing is gorgeous and has beautiful, inspiring lyrics, but it’s also hard to sing well.

Every music teacher I know agrees. The anthem should be easy to sing. Trying to teach The Star Spangled Banner to kids is hard- the range is too big and the lyrics are a grammatical mess.

Ms. Nelson. 7th-12th grade. I tell them they can call me by my first name after they graduate but I’ve never had one do it, which is weird.

Doubles. Love Shack. There would definitely need to be at least one backflip.

My kids love drug commercials because of the side effects list at the end while people on screen are frolicking in the waves or playing softball or whatever. They laugh their guts out and I can’t decide if that’s funny or alarming.

“Tofu is DISGUSTING!” he says while eating his super rare steak.

Yes! Boundaries!
I’ve been trying to set more boundaries with adults who want my time for unnecessary or inefficient things.

Their teachers probably had rules like “share” and “don’t be cruel to your classmates” and “everyone gets a turn” that they’ve been outraged about ever since.

Dolly makes the world better yet again.

Maybe that’s a standard on the whistling championship audition list.

I also heard a famous oboist play Ave Maria on the musical saw with more expression and better pitch than most of us could play it on the oboe.

One of the voice majors in college was an award winning whistler. For an encore at her recital she whistled the Queen of the Night aria and it was amazing.
