Motivation for choosing botany-related education?
My father left school at 14 and my (more intellectual) mother at 18, and I was born in a council house, so there was little expectation that I would explore tertiary education.

Motivation for choosing botany-related education:
i love the outdoors. I loved nature. I became a botanist NOT because I didn't like dissection of animals (I don't mind at all), but because I really found plants and all their diversity personally impressive

Most wholesome paper I have ever worked on. Made me feel awesome about being part of this community.
Just in time for Christmas a new paper in @plantspeopleplanet.bsky.social by @joannakacprzyk.bsky.social and myself.
We asked 421 plant scientists why they study plants!
Check it out and also check @plantmemories.bsky.social where we post lovely survey responses.

Community view on how plant science education should look like - I feel privileged about being able to make a small contribution. I think a lot of good ideas in this work!!!
Very excited to announce that our collaborative manifesto for 🌱 #PlantScience #Education has now been published! Educators from >10 countries and 30 institutions have contributed to it and we are incredibly proud of the final output. Here is a short thread 🧵1/4 doi.org/10.1002/ppp3...
A manifesto for plant science education
Plants provide oxygen, food, shelter, medicines and environmental services, without which human society could not exist. Tackling pressing and global challenges requires well-trained plant scientists....
