Things I love: Horses, dogs, cats, goats, all animals, the Appalachian mountains, the natural environment, social justice.
Values: Love and Integrity are foundational; benevolence, curiosity, and initiative guide me.
No photo, but we had 720 turn out in Abingdon, which is down in the southwest corner of Virginia -- a very red part of our commonwealth! Great inflatables, marvelous doggies, people of all ages, and great signs. Much fun was had by all, including lots and lots and LOTS of cars honking in support.

If you're not reading Paul Crenshaw, you should. He is poetic, ironic, insightful, funny, serious, and sometimes all of the above at the same time. Check out his post for today....

Wow. I'm reposting a repost by Robert Reich of a letter written by a fellow rural Virginian. It is one of the most powerful things I've read about what's really going on out here. I hope everyone takes the time to read it.

Revisionist History pod (Malcolm Gladwell), S 13, Ep 1. Derek Chauvin's killing of George Floyd & his 2017 assault on a 14-year-old boy. I listened and realized: We are the crowd, watching DJT, his knee on America's neck, choking the life out of her. "I can't breathe," she gasps. Stop watching. Act.

This is the kind of excessive force case DOJ routinely prosecutes. They should open an investigation here, based on the misconduct not the victims status.

While Mike Lee and Steve Daines' Senate Natural Resources Committee amendment to the budget reconciliation package mandates the sale of up to 3.3 million acres of public land, what most people miss is that it also authorizes the sale of 258 million acres. That's 40 percent of all public land:

Articles I've written on these shocking acreage totals have so far been pretty rushed and lacked analysis and context. I tried to fix that here, while also breaking the news that the total acreage is now even larger. Have you subscribed to my Substack yet?
