Over the past couple of years I've found myself writing surprisingly intricate Windows batch scripts (.cmd). You might wonder why even bother with that in 2025. For small helper tools, it makes sense to stick with what's built into the OS. 1/3

It's a mystery why apps (or installers) often seem to check country or region settings, and decide pick language based on that, rather than checking the primary preferred language from OS. As a result the app is using the wrong language.

reddit post screenshot. what’s the point of vibe coding if i still have to pay a dev to fix it? what’s the point of vibe coding if at the end of the day i still gotta pay a dev to look at the code anyway. sure it feels kinda cool while i’m typing, like i’m in some flow state or whatever, but when stuff breaks it’s just dead weight. i cant vibe my way through debugging, i cant ship anything that actually matters, and then i’m back to square one pulling out my wallet for someone who actually knows what they’re doing. makes me think vibe coding is just roleplay for guys who want to feel like hackers without doing the hard part. am i missing something here or is it really just useless once you step outside the fantasy

"Oedema animae cogunt" - demo by Rustbloom (took part in Assembly 2025 oldskool demo compo).
Runs on 386SX 16 MHz (from 1980's), VGA, GUS, hi-res 640x400 70Hz mode, full framerate. (Just for reference, it is "hi-res" because most DOS demos from 90's run in 320x200...)

New Rustbloom demo will be shown in Assembly Summer 2025 Oldskool demo compo tonight! Runs on 386 SX 16 MHz, 70 Hz hi-res 640x400 mode, full framerate (!). Has a little combination tricks that possibly has never been seen used in demos before now 😉

A long-standing ligature related text corruption bug in Chromium/Blink/Webkit affects desktop&mobile text area editors. I finally tracked it down a few months ago. Just waiting for it to get fixed!
