‘Nickname’ is not ‘nick’ + ‘name.’
It was originally ‘ekename.’
‘Eke’ was the Middle English word for “also” or “in addition.”
Since ‘ekename’ began with a vowel, people used ‘an’ before it.

This pair of WAAF ladies are about to launch a weather balloon and track it with a theodolite. This helps them to plot route and angles for the British planes. Lucky for them, if the conditions aren't right they can just change the sky, with the new SKIES BACKDROPS by @handiworkgames.bsky.social .
