Science fiction fan, reader, and convention runner. Doctor Who fan.
Adrian Tchaikovsky’s Service Model is a marvelous, often Swiftian novel of a robot valet trying to find new employment after killing its master. It’s one of two Tchaikovsky novels on my best SF of 2024 list.

My one wish for the inauguration is that there is a gift bag under the seats of Bezos, Zuck, Elon etc, with a single, embroidered , padded knee pad

Need to protect themselves when they are on bended knee, kissing the ring 🤷😆

Schiff: "I've been in Congress a long time approving aid after disasters. I never once even considered 'is this hurricane hitting a red or blue state?' ... we need the incoming president to view it that way."

Since preventative care saves money in the long term, why do some insurance companies oppose it?
The Supreme Court said Friday it will review the constitutionality of a provision of the Affordable Care Act that requires health plans to provide no-cost preventive care, including cancer screenings, immunizations and contraception, to millions of Americans.
Supreme Court to hear case challenging Obamacare’s preventive coverage
At issue is a provision requiring health-care plans to cover no-cost preventive care, including cancer screenings, immunizations and contraception. A Christian-owned business has challenged it.

Adrian Tchaikovsky’s Alien Clay will be on my Hugo nominations ballot. Tchaikovsky sets the novel on a planet with a very interesting, well constructed, and alien biosphere, and also peoples it with interesting human characters, stuck in a bad situation imposed by a future dystopian society.

I loved the Doctor Who Christmas episode. Steven Moffat continues to be a great and very creative writer.
