Now that I finished all of my field work and writing I can share my main thesis. The paper analyzes what it means to be a "good" player and what success means in the FGC. I analyze multiple different levels of success: one is "gap", which is how people view fairness and skill within the game.
I FINISHED WRITING THE FGC RESEARCH PAPER!!!!!! I just need to do some proofreading and this project is finally completed

every fighting game player learns early on that the character you play matters very little and that skill is what gets you results, up to a certain level.
it is your duty to forget this after 3 months and say "[player] is placing highly, the character must be good" for the rest of your career.

i mean, i could be wrong. arcsys doesn't know how to make games, they very well could have given across the board buffs to ram, sol, nago, leo, etc. but calm the hell down or you'll look like a moron when the patch notes drop and ram actually got gutted or something

overall, she's probably still really strong in corner, but her corner carry might be worse and she won't keep you in jail for not guessing correctly. i'm excited.

stop what you're doing. go play the 2-hour indie game that's been in your steam favorites since 2021. not many people know this, but if you do that, it's not in your backlog anymore.

love that people are treating the showcase like patch notes. like those are the only changes they made to the top tiers.
can't wait for the patch to actually drop and for people to realize that their freaking out on twitter was somehow more cringe than the usual tier list dooming.
