Back on my BS
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have the most wasted branding potential of almost any sport team.
This is the rare instance where I think the more aggressive/badass logo is actually called for.

I decorated the stand that my phone sits on with a motivational message that I can only read when I pick my phone up.

I do LOVE designing Googie stadiums!

More fake logos - this is the rare instance where I would design the version to go on a black background first - since the primary use would be a title card before a movie.

In case anyone was wondering how I was gonna use that newspaper within a panel. This is how much will be seen 🤷🏽‍♂️

THE PROBLEM when you want to have a close-up of a newspaper as a panel to convey information, is that you have to write that article; even if only the headline will read. Could I have just Greeked-in the text?-sure. Did I write 800 words of an article that may or may not be readable? - YES!!

There is a real intimacy to character design. By the time I figure out the angle of their brow or shape of their jaw, I can tell you their entire life’s story-even if they only ever appear in a single panel of comic. I live inside the head of every character I draw-or maybe, they live inside of me 🤷🏽‍♂️

When making movies, TV, or even plays, background and prop items (like a can of coffee) can simply be bought - in comicbooks, you have to design each and every object seen in every panel. Though a lil daunting, I try to have fun with it

The glorious imperfections of hand-lettering!
Display text is a great opportunity to express yourself as an artist, don’t pass them by with a font you kinda like.

Previous post may have been misleading; those images weren’t options, but rather, part of a 2-pg sequence.
I like to do things that only comics can do -the dashed line & palette shift devoid of Mano's signature colors to show that he's being manipulated. THIS is how I make a walk-n-talk interesting

I bought this lil soy sauce dish from Daiso for a dollar and it’s the best ink receptacle ever! It has a fluted wedge to remove excess ink and is broad enough for my widest brush. – Such a great find!

These logos I create for my comic were becoming repetitive - a lot of minimalist icon with San-serif (usually Helvetica) typefaces. So I took some time to re-do this one. I took liberal inspiration from the Hinshaw’s logo (a now-defunct Los Angeles department store that my Nana used to work at).
