Then they came for the libraries.....
President Trump's executive order to eliminate the Institute of Museum & Library Services would have disastrous effects for communities nationwide. We call on all Americans who value reading & learning to reach out to their elected leaders.

Seems corporate America expected coherence, competence & clarity from the new Administration. 🤔

Wonderful playwright and lifelong advocate for #democracy. Importantly, for his crime of speaking truth to power, the apartheid administration in South Africa revoked his passport.

Hey, @IATA, Musk-Trump & the CyberKids are wrecking your business. Ditto for you, U.S. Chamber of Commerce & U.S. Travel Assoc. Your silence is deafening.
Another way the dictatorship might kill you. This is from a friend who is a retired air traffic controller.

Struggling to find the right word, @google. Cowardice? Oleaginous? Obsequious? Definitely, pitiful.
We think they should be powerful enough to afford principles. They think they have a lot to lose (and they lost their "don't be evil" motto a long time ago). Google, you coward, you quisling.

The DEI caused the plane crash narrative is a distraction. The tariffs are a distraction. Whatever insane nonsense Trump spews that the media will chase like cats chasing a laser light is a distraction. The only story that counts right now is the wholesale hijacking of control of the US government.

i think an important thing for people outside the US to understand is that elon musk seized control of the government today and most americans don’t even realize it happened.

Your move, rest of world. With Team Trump terrified of science and scientists, there's rich talent to attract. Roll out your welcome mats!
I’m an NSF panel reviewer that was scheduled to meet today. Just got notice that all NSF panels were canceled today. I reviewed some innovative proposals in support of students. Devastating if these scholars don’t get to do this work. For the love of science & students I hope this is just a delay.💔

I'm baffled by the end-game intentions, @carlbergstrom.com Aren't broligarchs and Trump voters also vulnerable to cancer, toxic air, contaminated water, and climate change like the rest of us? Why the visceral contempt for science, expertise, and our institutions? I don't get it.
1. Sabotage public institutions.

2. Claim they don’t work efficiently.

3. Eliminate them.

That’s the playbook.

More courage, intelligence & empathy in her little finger than the old man she addressed. Thank you, Bishop Budde. You speak for tens of millions.
Can you imagine the courage it took to preach this message directly to the president? This is what a follower of Jesus looks like. (Partial transcript below.)

Heartbreaking news. 😢 Oddly prescient that Cecile Richards #Queen and The King share this day. Infinitely grateful for their dedication to We The People. ❤️
On a disconcerting day, this is perhaps the saddest thing. I recently interviewed her about her illness and more and she was and will always be an inspiration to me and so many others: 19thnews.org/2025/01/ceci...

The blazing colors at the Los Gatos farmer's market this morning can't help but spark joy. These beauts were grown nearby in Hollister by a family of brothers from Mexico and trucked into town by staff who started work at 5am. #farmworkers
