Jerwood Foundation has continued its support of Hofesh Shechter Company through awarding a grant of £80,000 over two years to fund Jerwood x SII, a continued professional development offer to eight exceptional contemporary dancers selected as part of Shechter II 2026.

We've chosen this piece by Carel Weight RA, who often populated his work with ghostly presences. In 'I Cheer a Dead Man’s Sweetheart', the man on the right appears as a ghost, watching the couple on the left.

This delicately composed still life transforms ordinary objects into contemplative arrangements, balancing realism with quiet surrealism.

In February 2026, Hatton Gallery will open HAPPY!, a major exhibition developed in partnership with Jerwood Collection and curated by L-INK. Over 30 works from Jerwood Collection will be on loan to the exhibition spanning three gallery spaces.

#BornOnThisDay in 1945 was British artist Maggi Hambling. 'Frances Rose' is one of two Hambling pieces in the collection, and marks the beginning of her return to drawing and painting from life, as recommended by Cedric Morris and Arthur Lett-Haines, and depicts her widowed neighbour at the time.
