This hits me right in the feels. I'm a few years older, but the last 20 months have really made me reevaluate where I am in life and it's nice to be reminded that others are going through it, too.

We often meet the inevitability of aging with resistance. But getting older is a gift. Some of my thoughts about entering middle age and life changes.

Being middle aged is weird, but whatever. Nevermind.
This is weird now. What happened? I look in the mirror and don’t recognize myself, although I still have this internal picture of me in my twenties—dark brown hair and about thirty pounds lighter. …

Yesterday during the campus walkouts I met a student wearing a Dark Side of the Moon hat. We had a brief discussion about Pink Floyd and our favorite tracks. It felt so good to talk about something positive, albeit brief. It’s great to see young people find joy in older music.

We’ve obtained video of the fatal crash in Aurora Monday night. Police say they clocked the driver at 97 MPH before he ran a red light at Buckley & Alameda. 1/

Here’s a quick little before and after video I just made on one of the big changes coming to the Denver airport Great Hall. Interesting piece of public art. What do you think?

Always like sharing this photo this time of year. 22 years ago I took my then-girlfriend (now wife) out to our first Valentine’s Day dinner.

Red Robin!

So romantic! Even the bird showed up!

During my AIM days I used to give out ASCII roses on Valentines Day. Bringing that back. Enjoy! Have a good one!

Hell’s Tacos food truck on Federal and 10th refuses to freeze at 7°. Still open for business with a warming tent put up for customers. People are still working hard in the cold.

Happy 17th Birthday to Denver’s demon horse, aka Bluecifer.

Fun fact: His real name is Mesteño which means mustang.

How fitting as temps plummet. ❄️

UPDATE: The swastikas are gone and the property manager posted this sign about them. (Sorry for reflection. It’s a bit hard to read).

From across the Capitol. The crowd definitely is swelling. This reminds me of the numbers I saw here in 2020.

From the steps of the Capitol building.

My estimate is likely way off….But I’m guessing 7,000+ people are now surrounding and marching around the Capitol building. They are marching on Lincoln and Broadway. Police seem to be visible, but mostly on the periphery of this rally/protest.
February 5, 2025 at 8:29 PM
People are gathering at the capitol building now for a rally expected to start at noon.
February 5, 2025 at 6:34 PM
This picture doesn’t capture the crowd, but I just drove by a large amount of young people waking on Speer to what I presume is towards the capitol building for a rally. I saw motorcycle police staging on Speer near 8th too.

Denver Police are monitoring a continuing conflict over swastikas someone has been displaying on their windows. The first one was recently shattered by someone who threw something at the window. Now two more are on display. The Colorado ADL chapter tells me it’s been receiving complaints. 1/

Buenos días les dé Dios. ☀️ Using my grandfather’s Santa Fe railroad mug this morning on what would have been 96th birthday. He worked for the railroad for the majority of his life. I remember going to work with him as a boy and hanging out at the Santa Fe train depot.

Some recent reporting. A look at the near midair collisions in Colorado. They are rare in the context of the number of flights, but do happen a few times a year. A pilot landing at Centennial airport wrote some pretty terse words about risks there after a close call: www.9news.com/article/news...

We anticipate more ICE activity in the Denver metro area in the coming days. Please contact me if you see activity. The feds don't release many details when something is happening and local journalists will need your help with any info and video you may have.

I’ve been inspired to work on a retablo. I’ve never created one but have always wanted to work on a vision. Last year I bought a plank of pine, cut it down and sporadically worked on it. Life gets so busy, I realized to create comes with discipline & intention. I just need to varnish and then hang.

A sign at the Denver Indian Center says community service programs are being paused because of the President’s order to halt federal funding. The center provides workforce training and helps men with fatherhood skills in the community.
