Hi, everyone! Sorry I'm kinda late to the party. I'm here to geek out about books, share and enjoy puppy pics, and serve the rebellion.
For Father’s Day weekend, my dad wanted to go to the #NOKings rally in San Antonio. So proud of him and the millions of others who joined in today’s protests.

NEW: ALA salutes Dr Carla Hayden for her exceptional service to the nation as the Librarian of Congress. We are deeply disappointed in Dr Hayden's abrupt & unjust dismissal last night, an insult to the scope & breadth of her work.

HUGE NEWS.

The judge in the case where 21 state attorneys generals sued the Trump administration over dismantling the IMLS just issued an injunction in favor of the plaintiffs. This is good news & the judge further indicates that the plaintiffs have a STRONG case here.

The Latest from the Institute of Museum and Library Services
A temporary restraining order halts further dismantling of the only federal agency for libraries, but the 2026 federal budget calls for eliminating the IMLS completely.

At least the U.S. is saving democracies around the world by serving as a cautionary tale. That's some comfort, I suppose.
Congratulations to Australia for defeating right-wing populism at the polls.

So JD Vance fails at conquering Greenland, breaks a championship trophy, and meets with the pope who dies hours later. He's the Homer Simpson of politicians, but without the endearing charm.

I think a lot abt how marginalized people are expected to be perfect just to be treated w/ basic dignity, just to access legal protection. But democracy can’t mean rights for the respectable few. It has to mean fair and just treatment even for those seen as least deserving. That’s the real test.

Here’s how I ended my testimony today against HB 3225:

If a few Texas parents don’t want their kids to have free and full access to our libraries, let those parents hold their own children’s hands, never allow them out of their sight, and never allow them to think for themselves. That’s on them.

Question: Can a filibuster follow a filibuster in the U.S. Senate? Could a tag-team of filibustering be kept up for, say, four years or so?

Thank you, Senator Booker. Your love for our democracy is evident. May other elected officials take up this fight with just as much courage. You’ve shown us that there’s still real leadership. And hope.
I’ve taken the Senate floor and will speak for as long as I’m physically able to lift the voices of Americans who are being harmed and not being heard in this moment of crisis. Watch here:

I just got a public death threat from a few folks who noticed I am doing a library event to talk about my career and my books. They called me all the familiar names, then “I won’t be sad if someone shoots her in the face.” And a woman’s reply, “Right between the eyes.”

I am a children’s author.
