Here is a thread on how to install Stockfish for use with HIARCS on macOS. General principle works for any other engine.

It is a long thread; make sure to drill down through to the last post (numbered 9. in the text)

A quite nice opinion piece by Emma Brockes about Elon Musk's recent "rage-fests" on X. It was fun to read and I think must have been fun to write. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

A couple weeks ago I changed my daily tactics practice from 10 puzzles per each of 7 themes to just 5 puzzles per theme. A good change -- I'm taking each individual puzzle more seriously, and thinking more carefully about the position. I may have found the quantity-quality sweet spot (for me).

Every day I try to a minimum of an hour of tactics. I use lichess tactics, 10 puzzles for each of these themes:

- Hanging Pieces
- Pins
- Forks
- Skewers
- Removing the Defender
- Discovered Attacks
- Double Check

Thinking about cutting it back to 5 puzzles each, because life. #chesspunks

I discovered Komodo/Dragon from reading a recent post by Ivan Veselov on his 64Squares blog:
64squares.substack.com/p/engine-spa.... At the bottom of the post, Ivan talks about using the Komodo engine for sparring and also playing long time control games.

I'm using the Dragon 1.0 engine (free to use), which is a successor to Komodo 14 and earlier. It's playing style and strength is very configurable, it also doesn't require a high-end graphics card, plays quickly, and doesn't cause the fans on my laptop to peg.

I'm playing against an engine that is tuned to be just slightly worse than me, and doesn't randomly blunder. It plays moves that humans might play. Next I'll try configuring it to be slightly better than me.

#chesspunks is there a way to hie text in a post? I'm thinking about posting puzzle solutions and wanting the moves to be hidden to avoid spoilers. You can do this in reddit and discord. Is it possible in bsky?
