Layers upon layers in the Superstition Mountains for #MonochromeMonday

I had headed out in the pre-dawn hours to photograph the Three Sisters in the Superstitions, and while it was fun, I really didn't have a cooperative sky, but I got this on the hike back out as the sun worked its magic.

Sunset in the dunes of Death Valley during the fading winds of a brutally windy few days.

Barely made it to this spot as I'd stopped to help some folks with a broken-down vehicle en route from Lone Pine. But with a near job across the dunes, I made it *just* in time!

I might need to start taking more pictures of trees so I have images for #TreeTuesday.

Don't get me wrong, I like to photograph trees, but doing good woodlands photography can be tough! Definitely room for improvements, both in seeing the scenes and capturing them in an interesting manner.

The dominant cliff faces of the Superstition Mountains in Arizona.

I spent a fair amount of time exploring the area, barely making a dent though, during late 2023 and into 2024.

So many stories and legends and some great trails as well!

Early morning sunrise from autumn of last year in the Great Smoky Mountains. Even when the sky is clear, the layers of the Smokies do not disappoint!

For #WaterfallWednesday I bring you Cucumber Falls in Ohiopyle State Park in Pennsylvania.

Anyone who knows me knows I am and always have been a big fan of waterfalls. I know a lot of photographers move past waterfalls, feeling like once you've photographed one, you've photographed all - not me!

A throwback to a foggy autumn morning from a few years ago.

Fog has a way of making ordinary scenes near magical. I find that true of most adverse weather conditions - fog, rain, snow, ice - all elements that turn scenes into unique landscapes that few get out and see.

A black and white image for today, this is from a hike near the Superstition Mountains in Arizona.

This was supposed to be a short hike, but I kept saying just a little bit further and the next thing you know, it was easier to just finish the loop than backtrack!

Always be hyperaware of passing moments. This image, which has become a favorite of mine, was taken in the Great Smoky Mountains back in September.

We were en route to photograph sunset later that evening at Kuwohi when we saw the light playing in the ridges at an overlook on the way up.

Close up of Spruce Flat Falls in Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Black and White.

I visited this one in the late afternoon and being my first visit wasn't sure how the sun would (or would not) be hitting it. Had a fair amount of dappled light going on, but I still thought it came out!

New to Bluesky? These packs are a great way to get a feed full of landscape photography!

Thanks @eugenetphoto.bsky.social for putting this pack together!
Some links to a few people I’ve followed for years and also some of the new faces I’ve discover on here.

These ‘packs’ are a great way to find photographers or accounts you are interested in. I’ll continue to update it as we move forward
