February in the Bay Area is possibly my favorite month. It’s stunningly green, chilly (for here), lush, clean and gorgeous.
Still too expensive to live in, and too far from the mountains but I’ll enjoy it while I can.

You need a few things to line up for Yosemite’s firefalls:
Decent snowpack in a relatively small drainage basin
Clear skies at sunset to the west
It took me a few years of trying to see one, but it paid off eventually.
I don’t think we have enough snow this year for much if any of a show.

Running up Temelpa trail as the sun starts to crack the cloud deck is one of my favorite ways to start a day. The route up from Mill Valley to the top of Mount Tam is a classic.

Sunrise on Mt Tamalpais requires me to wake up about 2.5 hours before sunrise to drive and run up Temelpa trail to the summit. So that was a 4am start today, but on days like this it’s easily worth it.

An alpine start means you start a trail well before #sunrise.
One thing i love is trying to plan summit sunrises. Estimate how long it will take to hit the summit and then take the sunrise time and subtract that.
The payoff of being on top of a #mountain to see sunrise is always worth it.
