A Modded GBS 8200. Installed a clock generator and a NodeMCU programmed with GBS-C. With the GBS-C, I can play on HDMI displays with my older consoles. Stuff I’ve been working on lately. Recapped SNES with a brand new shell to replace the old, yellowed, and damaged shell. Still need to work out kinks in the new one.

I also made a DIY GBS-C. I did all the recommended mods from the GitHub. I still need a proper power supply to actually test it out.

Got a BlueRetro Adapter for my NES so I can use my newly Bluetooth modded NES controller. Turns out there were some kinks with button mapping, which thankfully, I was able to rectify. Took some trial and error, but I’m happy with it! Should have gone with the 8BitDo adapter for the plug & play 🤷🏾‍♀️

My fiancé got me an 8BitDo Bluetooth Mod Kit for the original NES controller. The original NES board has problems with messed up inputs but everything else about the controller was good. So I swapped the boards out. I’m impressed with the quality! Tested it on my Switch playing Punch Out.

Considering making a longer one. On the left, is an original NES controller. On the right, is the internal circuit board of the original NES controller. I suspect the chip installed on the board has gone bad which is why I wanted to use the 8BitDo Bluetooth Mod Kit. Gives new life to a once dead controller.

Installed my first ExtremeRate RISE 4 kit on a Midnight Black DualSense. Of course, gave it some GuliKit TMR sticks. Finally, gave it a battery upgrade. This was a fun modding project! Considering offering this as a service.

Calling it a loss. Didn’t want to risk infestation. Lesson learned: don’t buy suspiciously cheap secondhand consoles without asking questions first.

Always use OEM Power Supplies with your retro consoles! Why? Here is an SNES console running the burn-in test using a cheap, aftermarket power supply where it shows a failing VRAM. I ran the same test on the same console with an OEM Nintendo power supply and it passes the burn-in test with no errors
Aftermarket power supply that is compatible with both NES and SNES consoles. I highly recommend against buying these. Burn-In Test results for the SNES using the aftermarket power supply. It shows a VRAM failure with distorted text across the top of the screen and mismatched characters. An Official Nintendo Power Supply for SNES. SNS-002. I replaced the capacitor inside of it with a brand new one. The same SNES console using the official Nintendo power supply running the Burn-In Test with passing results.

I got this Sega Genesis Model 2 off eBay. The reset button was stuck but it did power on. I cleaned the cartridge connector and replaced the old capacitors with brand new ones. Then I cleaned the whole shell. Almost lost the spring for the cartridge slot dust guard flaps so that was stressful 😅

Sega Genesis Model 2 powered on with 6-Pak cartridge loaded into the console. 6-Pak is a compilation cartridge that has 6 games in one cart. It has Sonic the Hedgehog, Revenge of Shinobi, Golden Axe, Columns, Streets of Rage, and Super Hang-On. The whole shell, power, and reset buttons have been deep cleaned. Sonic the Hedgehog title screen using the Sega Genesis Model 2. Using a cheap Composite to HDMI adapter to get the picture on the monitor.

Busy day today! Just finished my eBay customer’s controller for service today. Cleaned it up, installed new GuliKit TMRs.

This Genesis was filthy and didn’t read carts. Reset was stuck. Cleaned the shell, buttons, and the cartridge connector. She lives but needs a recap.
Customer’s Galactic Purple Dualsense before I worked on it. Dirty and has drift. Customer’s Galactic Purple controller after cleaned and serviced it. Has new GuliKit TMR joysticks installed. Sega Genesis 2 with 6-Pak loaded into it. Cartridges could not be read before. Reset button was stuck. Cleaned the top shell to fix the stuck buttons and the cartridge connector. It works…kinda The Genesis 2 boots to the game now but there’s discoloration. That tells me that this console needs its capacitors replaced.

The world may be on fire, but I am so grateful to this hobby. It’s one of the few things in life that keeps me sane other than my loved ones. I feel good knowing there are others who can benefit from my skills. That’s what keeps me going.

How my week’s going 🙃
The section of a PS5 controller’s motherboard where the USB-C port should be installed. All of the solder pads except the anchor points for the USB-C port were torn off during the removal. The connector inside the USB-C port was wobbly to the touch and would not detect a USB cable which is why I wanted to replace the port. I used Chip-Quik and plenty of flux on all the joints and applied at least 420 degrees Celsius of heat from my hot air gun. I’m not sure what went wrong but I suspect it was from how wobbly the internal connector was which may have torn the traces or I may not have applied enough heat to that particular area that got torn off. I’m not sure. Either way, this will be a frustrating fix once I do more research. Worst case scenario, I’ll use this controller for parts. Broken microphone flex cable on a different PS5 controller. This is a simple fix but it’s also a reminder to slow down when opening any controller, especially PS5 controllers.

Got a PS4 Slim for $30 untested. Powered on, but no picture. Decided to replace the HDMI port. Pretty proud for my first time! Definitely some growing pains. But I think replacing USB-C ports helped the learning process. I’m so pumped to play Bloodborne again! 🥹
