Borrowed from Latin planta ‘sprout, offspring’

Many Romance words also come from Latin (by genetic inheritance): Sp. planta, It. pianta, Fr. plante

Old Irish póc 'kiss' / Modern Irish póg 'kiss'

Probably a loanword from the Latin phrase ōsculum pācis (kiss of peace), entering Old Irish via a Brittonic language.
