A previously unknown 13th-century manuscript has been saved for the nation by the Bodleian and is on display this weekend. The Old French translation of the New Testament belonged to Duke Humfrey, who gave his books to Oxford University 150 years before the Bodleian was founded.

We announce @bodleianlibraries.bsky.social a new acquisition today - a 13th century French transl of the New Testament, illuminated in Paris by the Cholet Master, formerly owned by King Jean II le Bon & (for us, importantly), Humfrey Duke of Gloucester. Will go on Digital Bodleian tonight! 1/2

A real treat to attend this conversation. Elif Shafak has clearly inherited her grandmother's wisdom: she tackles important cultural and humanitarian issues with sensitivity and clarity. Her writing is a joy to read.
Just finished an in-conversation @bodleianlibraries.bsky.social with the incomparable Elif Shafak, discussing women writers, the roles and responsibilities of writers in our own times, and her new book ‘There are rivers in the sky’. What a joy!
