Martin Luther King, Jr. spent his life and paid the ultimate sacrifice to ensure that all American citizens, irrespective of their skin color or station in life, had equal access to America's promise. It is not only worthy of commemoration, but it also needs to continue — perhaps even more so today.

With the dysfunction of politics in our state and nation, elected officials whose salaries we pay are not doing their jobs. Some are not showing up to work at all, yet they will receive their pay. Could any of us get away with that?
