I want to recommend Nat Geo's Hurricane Katrina: Racers Against Time (on Disney+ in Europe). It's an appropriately hard-hitting but important watch, and it shows - as one of the interviewees put it so well - how Katrina went from a disaster to a tragedy. www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio...

Traci A Curry’s documentary explores how political impotence, media distortion and America’s racial polarisation turned a disaster into something much worse

I saw the new Avatar trailer in the cinema last week, and it got me thinking, so here's my hot take: James Cameron hasn't made a truly great film since 1991. Maybe 1994 if I want to include True Lies...

Two governments took The News Agents to secret court for two years via a constitutionally unprecedented superinjunction to stop you from hearing this story.

The MoD is responsible for a data leak that put up to 100,000 Afghans at risk of death.

After the disappointment of The Old Guard 2 earlier in the week, I'm happy to report that Heads of State, while deeply silly, is also a bunch of fun. Perfect viewing for a Friday night.

My beloved laptop is almost 12 years old and, as it is not fond of 30+ degree heat, I have selflessly given up my tiny desk fan so it can have the fresh breeze. I'm basically a saint. 😇

M:I 8 was pretty good. Not my favourite of the McQuarrie collection, but the action is, as ever, brilliantly shot. The plot is absolute bobbins, mind you, but maybe that's par for the course.

"This is Star Wars — and small-screen storytelling in general — at its best."

The second season of Andor follows Cassian as he becomes a key part of the rebellion, while the Empire prepares to unleash the Death Star.

Listening to @helenlohara.bsky.social on this week's Empire podcast highlights some of my concerns about Warfare. I recently read A Stranger in Your Own City by Ghaith Abdul-Ahad, which reflects on conflicts in Iraq over recent years from an Iraqi perspective, and I would thoroughly recommend it.
