I stomped up to the allotment in the rain and picked some of the few flowers that had dared to bloom. And then crowned Our Lady of the Hellebores.

The next stage is Insurrection Act, canceling elections and Martial Law.

That's the Trump plan.

If u think I'm crazy well you have refused to pay attention to the evidence of your eyes & ears for the past decade.

We have to use all our powers to stop them. Go on offense. Legally & peacefully.

This is from a symposium of the Worlds leading long covid experts (August 2025) . H/t Charlos on X. This should tell everyone what you need to know. Not one long covid expert without a respirator, no non maskers or gappy surgicals in sight. Experts know it’s airborne and know the health risks.

Curious to see THE WHITE HARE become 'The Storm House' in German. Weirdly, the cover would fit the current work-in-progress better. The fictional Penhallow House in HEART OF SAFFRON is originally Tudor, but one side has a Palladian frontage tacked on - it's a novel about deceptions and facades. 💙📚

Unbelievably exciting and magical to be able to see the aurora from our own door! We RAN down to the end of the South Quay to get away from the streetlights and just stood there gasping at the majesty of it all. What a privilege. Thank you, universe! #NorthernLights

It's a Blue Monday today - to cheer yourself up I highly recommend AKOTSK (on HBO Max): the first episode of the tale of Dunk and Egg is just gorgeous: funny, tender, beautifully cast and shot. Gritty, grubby heaven. And when the GoT music briefly wafted past, I welled up.

Starting tonight (3am UK, HBO Max) George RR Martin's A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS - glorious tales of hedge knight Dunk and his squire Egg adventuring through Westeros. Heart, soul, humour, thrills, beautifully bite-size.
Proud to have published the stories back in 2017. #books 💙📚

For the 25th anniversary, some cinemas are showing the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy in its extended versions. 25 years! I was Tolkien publisher and as Jude Fisher wrote the Visual Companions, and was the only person allowed to take photos apart from the official stills photographer... 1/ #books

A woman recording an ICE agent tells him "Shame on you."

The agent responds, "Have you all not learned from the past couple of days?"

"Learned what?" she asks

The calm after the storm. Good to see life thriving after our hurricane-force winds. There's been so much damage in Cornwall, 1000s trees down, roofs lost, and one poor man crushed by a fallen tree. But the birds and even butterflies are out, as is the sun, the butterbur and the gorse. #cornwall

Very very late to the party, (happens a lot when you're both a publisher and an author, so little time to read for fun), but Ruth Ozeki is an amazing writer. What a wonderfully playful, thought-provoking, entertaining book this is: 💙📚 #books

So not only is generative AI environmentally unfriendly, grounded on massive intellectual property theft, hugely over-hyped, and probably a bubble about to burst, but it's ALSO also driving up costs for everyone else's devices. Great.

Just hit 80,000 words on HEART OF SAFFRON.
Working in publishing leaves you very little time to empty your head of other people's (wonderful) words and ideas to concentrate on your own. But maybe it helps me build a quiet head of steam in the compartment of my brain labelled 'STORIES'...

Hope you all have an excellent Christmas!

I'm 20+ chapters into writing HEART OF SAFFRON, a novel that centres on the growing of saffron in 18th c Cornwall, so it feels rather apt that Abdel's turban and the embroidery of his traditional desert gandoura is the colour of that magical spice.

On my lunchtime walk through the Fulham Palace grounds, a gift from the wild: first one, then two healthy-looking foxes, who ran and gambolled together, then settled down in the winter sun for some mutual grooming. They passed me at an uninterested trot - "I see the humans are out again, dear...".
