The Dark Spire—also called Long Dong Silver, Black Spire, or Lone Tower—is a striking sandstone formation about 7 miles west of Hanksville, Utah. Rising sharply from a barren desert, its remote, otherworldly look feels straight out of Star Wars or The Lord of the Rings.

Grey Whiskers Butte (Dághaa' libáí) is named for a respected Navajo medicine man who helped establish Monument Valley Tribal Park in 1958. The name means ‘gray whiskers’ and the butte is considered a symbolic doorway to the sacred valley.
