Open University undergraduate attempting to career change into Planetary Science/Astrobiology in my 30s
1st half of my final year of undergrad is finally finished with a tricky paper assignment. Quite happy with how it turned out even if I was a bit simplistic in my methods but I followed all the instructions to the letter so hopefully that makes up for it.

Only 1 module and my dissertation left...

Wow Istanbul area is really shaking right now. 9 earthquakes in the last 90 minutes. I felt the 6.3 one in Sofia.

First assignment of my final year of undergrad comes back with an 85%. Considering aswell how demanding my job has been in the last couple of months, this is just a huge result for the motivation.

Some parts of Mars really do change a lot between images.

Here are 2 CTX images of exactly the same region taken about 7 years apart (Dec 2007 - Jan 2015).

Lots of dust devil tracks, and wind streaks. But also, a new impact crater.

Hard to overstate how good starter packs are as an idea. I've managed to find hundreds of cool people to follow that would have taken so much longer (if at all) without them. Thanks to everyone who has created them.

I feel like this place is starting to finally get more populated but retaining the better atmosphere.

I really should start posting here more often and being more active finding people to follow.

Astonishing effort from SpaceX. I have no idea how that was done on the first try and how it looked so effortless.

2nd year ends with 80% in Cell and Molecular biology. Puts me a position where I now only need a 1st in half of 3rd year for a 1st overall which felt unobtainable at the beginning considering working full time in a demanding job and studying alongside it. Delighted the effort is getting results.

So happy this lived up to my expectations too.
Extremely excited by the reviews for Godzilla Minus One! Absolutely no idea when I’ll be able to actually watch though it as it’s not in cinemas here 😭

I have been off most social media for the majority of this year and whilst in general this has been a good thing for me, I have missed alot of the interactions with the good people. Also I had my first 'academic' call last month with someone I likely wouldn't have known about without twitter.

m honestly not sure there’s a better hit of a dopamine than when you get a great score back on a assignment that you worked really hard on but thought was just not good at all.

After not using a pack of 48 ladyfingers for a Christmas Day Tiramisu I seem to have discovered that they might just be the best dunking biscuit. Basing this mainly on the incredible liquid soaking potential they possess.

🔊Calling all primary school teachers: time to get the kids to paint Neptune pale bluey-green!

In 1989 when Voyager2 snapped images of Neptune, they upped the blue filter to enhance features in the atmosphere, leading to a global misconception that Neptune is deep blue. 🧪🔭

Amazing new images of the moon Io have come down from the Juno spacecraft! This one shows the volcanic moon of Jupiter from only 2,800 kilometers away, which is the closest look we’ve gotten of Io since over 20 years ago. Check out all those volcanoes!!!!

I bought my father-in-law a really good quality fountain pen for Christmas (thank you to my partner for the suggestion) and it’s really made me want to get one for myself and hand write letters like ye olden days.

How times change... When I was in school as a teen a 75 on an assessment just never happened (completely my fault) but now I get a 75 back and it feels like a disaster. (it's not)

I know I care infinitely more now than I did then but it's nice to know how much more.
