Happy 30th birthday to Alice In Chains’ sludgy masterpiece, ‘Alice In Chains’. Their heaviest work, but also some sweet acoustic flourishes and great vocal interplay between Jerry and Layne

Post a perfect album from 1989, a perfect music year

Devoured in one sitting. So much to commend. The righteous feminist fury, the deft flitting from past to present, the descriptions of straightened childhoods, the sprinkling of magic. Came for the grunge; stayed for the plot. Bravo, @lucynichol.bsky.social
Beside myself with excitement for the new book by @lucynichol.bsky.social , ‘Girls To The Front’, a found footage feminist revenge thriller soundtracked by Riot Grrrl bands. Loving the cover - designed by Chris Bigg of 4AD fame. Book sourced by Yorkshire’s finest bookshop, @jebookshull.bsky.social

5 years gone. Peter’s music saved my life. I’m forever in his debt

Listen to this live performance and see why BB King once said, ‘He’s the only one that gave me the shivers’

I know it’s pie in the sky bullshit, but we could have had the best grunge mini-festival in 1991 with bands releasing records that year:

Tad - 8 Way Santa
Nirvana - Nevermind
Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger
Screaming Trees - Uncle Anesthesia
Mudhoney - EGBDF
Melvins - Bullhead

30 years of Fugazi’s ‘Red Medicine’

One of many leaps forward for the band, RM saw Fugazi turn down the volume and dial up the experimentation. Despite its challenging nature, it remains their most commercially successful release. A testament to the perfect execution of their vision.

New EP of unreleased material from Seattle band Capping Day, ‘Who Does Anyway’

Harmonising vocals, askew sense of melody, dark & literary lyrics

It’s glorious

OTD 30 years ago, Tad released their final, full studio album, ‘Infrared Riding Hood’. It manages to be both their most brutal work, and, in places, their most melodic. It’s a stark document of a band at the peak of its powers.

5th April is a shitty day for fans of grunge music, losing Kurt in 94 and Layne in 2002, but just remembered we also lost Shawn Smith on 3rd April 2019. Fuck this month

Amazing to think that all of these incredible albums were released within 42 days of each other in 1991

Finally got my hands on a copy of the new rereleased ‘Feeling You Up’ (1997) by grunge originators, Truly. Featuring former members of Soundgarden, Screaming Trees, and Nirvana. ‘Feeling You Up’ sees the band lean into the 60s psych-pop vibe whilst retaining their full throated grunginess. 10/10

An excellent evening aboard Leeds’ Hold Fast Books for the {ahem} launch of @adamjfarrer.bsky.social’s ‘Broken Biscuits’ with insightful questions from @bradleybooks.bsky.social

Adam’s excerpts were hilarious and i can’t wait to start the book
