When a Montreal guitar maker shipped new instruments to three customers in the U.S. last month, he believed the instruments wouldn't be subject to import tariffs, which have been suspended on goods that comply with the USMCA/CUSMA, a trade deal that specifically includes Canadian-made guitars.

A Montreal family wants police to reopen the investigation into their son's death. Emmanuel Diafouka's body was found in a DDO park last January, he had been shot in the forehead. After a six-day investigation, police ruled the 18-year-old's death a suicide, but his family believes he was murdered

Two years ago, seven people were killed when an Old Montreal building caught fire.

Police quickly determined the fire was criminally set, but no one has yet been charged.

A report was submitted to prosecutors, but police say the Crown wants more information and the investigation remains active.

But while there's a lot of interest in breaking down these barriers, that might be difficult. Unlike Trump's threatened tariffs, these aren't deliberate barriers to trade, they're the result of diverging provincial regulations and getting rid of them means asking provinces to give up some autonomy.
