Rambling about the intersection of Economics, Technology and Culture.

Part 2 on “cognitive overload” is the crux of disillusionment with the economy and our view of the future. It is much harder to be optimistic when the weight of (screams) ***EVERYTHING*** is constantly hanging over your head.

Still too woke. Needs to be 12 point MLA format to truly return to our traditional American values.

Paul Krugman's recent series on affordability hit the nail on the head, but I would take it a step further. The "Bad Vibes" aren't just about prices and frozen markets but the frequency with which we encounter them.

Comparison of where the AI models stand today:

Chat GPT & Open AI - Very sycophantic, engagement optimized and like a cheap shopping mall. Reflective of possibly having a lot ex Meta people and using the engagement playbook. Going to be multiplied with advertisements.

There is still no good text based network:

Bluesky - The most annoying people scolding each other
Threads - A bland manicured influencer land
X - The most annoying people trying to sound smarter than each other and then also the far right
Mastodon - A few protocol nerds shouting into the empty void

Growing up with Star Trek and Star Wars having a tool that's encoded all of human knowledge and I can talk to about anything and everything is truly amazing. Like everything in life moderation is always best but the blanket "AI is bad" crowd is regressive.

I love AI. Why doesn't everyone?
Anti-AI sentiment might or might not be rational, but it certainly relies on a lot of bad arguments.

What are the best resources for learning UI/UX design?

I've been building with Claude Code and its been a huge unlock. Finally, using all the product management classes I've taken as a Data Scientist/Engineer.

I don’t understand why these companies think people want another social media network to post on. We are already stressed enough by the few most people are on.

A conspicuous lack of mention of spatial video today.

Did they even mention if the new iPhone Air is capable of shooting it?

If this is true it definitely makes me think about switching more. Would be interested in how it does in Low Power mode with LTE turned off. If it lasts 24 hours I would do it.

Apple Event Reactions

1. The iPhone Air is impressive but no wide angle camera is almost a deal breaker. Care about that more than the zoom.
2. Love the new unibody (especially the orange) Pro design but wish they had the bumper case they designed for th Air so you could show off the Pro more.

Apple I'm begging you just make an Ultra with better battery life and I'd switch back from Garmin in a heart beat. I've gotten so annoyed with Garmin's software over the last year.

I don't even mind having to charge it every time I shower. I just need it to last for a 100 mile ultra.

There are two competing narratives on this: science changed, or Republicans changed. You can figure out for yourself which one is more likely.
In 2019, 70% of Republicans said science has had a mostly positive effect on society. A few years later, fewer than half of Republicans (47%) said so.

CNN: When the jobs report comes out, are you going to believe the numbers?

REP. RANDY FINE: Um, I'm going to look at the numbers. Look, the people who put these numbers together are human & fallible and make mistakes

C: It wasn't that they make mistakes

F: Numbers always tend to benefit the left

"Once again we are going to shoot ourselves in the foot"

You would think that seeing a candidate energize a party (across a wide political spectrum) would teach them something but you can't stop the power of incentive structures and naked personal interest.
Democratic Party moderates see Virginia governor hopeful Abigail Spanberger as a more politically viable standard-bearer than the likes of New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani.

This report about NYC needing more millionaires is being framed as if it is counter to progressive rhetoric. I would argue that they are not actually in conflict.

Why aren’t taxes more transparent?

I would think if more people had a clearer understanding of where their money was going they’d be more willing to pay them.

Why are politicians afraid to message how the expansion of the social safety net could benefit business?

"A small 0.47% tax creates flexibility because businesses don't have to worry about paying or providing all of the services."

This article is a good template for how to communicate it.
