Betty Reid Soskin lived a long and consequential life. The country’s oldest serving National Park Service ranger passed away yesterday, on the Winter Solstice, at age 104. Betty had worked at the Rosie the Riveter World War II Home Front National Park Museum in Richmond for more than a decade.

This is Day 1 of a new beginning of accountability and integrity. We’re going to have a sheriff who is committed to rebuilding the office and restoring our faith in the department. A lot of work needs to get done, but we finally have a solid partner in our new San Mateo County Sheriff Ken Binder.

Huge turnout at today’s Career Fair with 1,500 attendees who were looking for jobs with purpose. As an elected official for over 40 years, I believe public service is the highest calling and hope job seekers will find a home in the county workforce.
