I'm the one reading indoors.
Today I learned:
Seeing Chip Carter's beautiful eulogy is reminding me of a fancy-people thing that I never learned until well into adulthood.

Chip is a nickname for a guy named after his dad.
Skip is a nickname for a guy named after his grandfather.
Trip is a nickname for a guy named after his dad AND grandfather.

A Madison favorite. Thanks for decades of wonderful browsing and books 📖
Sad news. Truly, the end of an era. Has anyone out there visited Madison, Wisconsin? I've lived in this town for more than 25 years and Paul's Books has always been one of my favorite shops in town. It will be sad to see this place go. I feel generally heartbroken to hear this news. 📚
Paul's Book Store is closing after 70 years
One of the oldest independent bookstores in town will close for good in early 2025.

"In the 1930’s they spent 48 hours working, 56 hours sleeping, 31 hours on home obligations, and 24 hours eating or running errands. What remained, a rather precarious 9 hours per week, was time spent in the pursuit of what could generously be called pleasure" open.substack.com/pub/oneperce...
