The #UN General Assembly has elected former President of Iraq Barham Salih as the new High Commissioner for #Refugees.

He will assume office on January 1, 2026, replacing Filippo Grandi.

"As a former refugee, I know first-hand how #protection and opportunity can change ... a life," Salih said.

📸345 Bangladeshi citizens returned home from Libya this morning via @iom.int voluntary return program.
