❗️block states from counting absentee ballots received after election day
❗️require frequent voter purges that would kick eligible citizens off the rolls

What's the lie?
The proponents insist that the chaplains are meant to serve teachers only. There is nothing in this legislation that restricts chaplains to teachers or adults only or that restricts chaplains from interacting with students.
The only possibly relevent bit is "would allow volunteer chaplains to be made available to provide services at the request of a teacher." This does not clarify the matter...at all.
Chaplain training
The bill says "This bill would require a volunteer campus chaplain to complete a recognized chaplain training program".
But it says nothing else.
Last year, my own rep. said that chaplains "have specialized training for impartial presence in these environments."
Ok, great. But there is no minimum standard set in the bill. Training programs range from minimal/ideological to highly professionalized, and this legislation does not set a bar.

The Religion Angle
This is not just about minority religionists!
A lot of people, including many Christians, would never agree that someone else should decide who should minister to another person's child. That is between the mom, the dad, and their chosen church. As John Archibald reminded us, the Methodist church just had a total split because they couldn’t even agree amongst themselves. Imagine a United Methodist chaplain ministering to a child from a Global Methodist family. How well do you think that would go over?
Note: Please, please, please do not throw our Muslim brothers and sisters under the bus by conjuring up a scary Muslim chaplain as your argument against this.
The Guidance Counselor Angle
I thought the chaplains weren't there for the kids?

THE INSIDE SCOOP ON WHY THIS BILL IS BEING INTRODUCED

Last year, health, safety and environmental groups petitioned the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) to decrease the amount of toxins that polluters could discharge into our waterways based on recent scientific data. The Environmental Management Committee actually instructed ADEM to begin rulemaking to create standards more protective of human health.

WHAT TO SAY TO YOUR LEGISLATOR ABOUT THIS BILL:

This bill will endanger our families. It keeps state agencies from creating science-based standards for toxic substances such as Arsenic, Cyanide, and Forever Chemicals (PFAS) and allows Washington D.C. to dictate what is best for Alabama and the health of our families.
This bill will increase the cost of treating drinking water. Drinking water utilities and customers will have to pay the price of cleaning up our drinking water. If ADEM can’t regulate harmful chemicals, municipal water suppliers and customers will be forced to foot the bill in maintaining federally required drinking water standards for Forever Chemicals.
This bill creates an impossible burden for state agencies to create standards for toxic substances. It requires evidence to prove a chemical is harmful that typically doesn’t exist because state agencies that have limited resources must show “a direct causal link” to bodily harm in order to protect citizens and prohibits standards based on “increased risk of disease.”

📚BACKGROUND
NIH grants take too long to write and too long to reach funding decisions. We are experiencing major uncertainty, delayed funding cycles, overwhelmed staff who can’t clearly explain what replaces the old, predictable decision system. As one example: a grant that I submitted beginning of June, 2025 wasn’t reviewed until last week. It received a decent score during scientific review but it is entirely unclear what happens from here, who will decide its fate and based on what criteria beyond the score.
🔹 The journal Science analyzed OPM data: Federal agencies lost 10,109 STEM/health Ph.D.s in 2025; at 14 research agencies, departures outnumbered hires 11-to-1. That's 14% of the total number of Ph.D.s in STEM!
🔹NIH was the hardest-hit agency in that analysis: “more than 1,100” STEM/health Ph.D. departures in 2025 vs 421 in 2024. Normally departures are offset by hires
🔹NIH (Nov. 21, 2025): NIH will no longer rely on paylines; Institutes/Centers must weigh peer review “in its entirety” alongside priorities, workforce sustainability, and geographic distribution raising concern about inconsistent or politicized decisions if criteria aren’t transparent.

👉🏻 Demand a workforce retention and hiring plan for NIH program and review operations, with public reporting.
👉🏻Require NIH to restore predictable review/council timing and set measurable targets for submission → review → award.
