And no, autism doesn’t ruin families. Misinformation can ruin families. A lack of support and tools can ruin families. A diagnosis under the DSM 5 guidelines can be life-changing for someone who feels “other.”

Autism is not a disease. Want to know why there are more diagnoses of autism than there were a few decades ago? Better data, better science, and a broader criteria umbrella have now included previously undefined neurodivergence into the autism spectrum.
