Pentafluorophenyl-Tagged Poly(2-isopropenyl-2-oxazoline) as a Highly Reactive Precursor for para-Fluoro-Thiol Click Chemistry
Poly(2-isopropenyl-2-oxazoline) (PIPOx) is a versatile postpolymerization modification platform, yet its reactions have so far been limited to direct additions of thiols and carboxylic acids with variable efficiency. Here, we show that the reaction of PIPOx with 2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorothiophenol (PFTP) rapidly and cleanly generates poly(N-(2-((perfluorophenyl)thio)ethyl)methacrylamide) (PPFPTEMA), a highly reactive precursor for para-fluoro-thiol (PFT) click chemistry, featuring fast kinetics, equimolarity, orthogonality, and facile product isolation. A wide array of commercially available thiols react quantitatively and selectively with PPFPTEMA, enabling the synthesis of well-defined polymethacrylamides with diverse side-chain functionalities, including ionizable groups, supramolecular motifs, natural compounds, drugs, fluorescent tags, and polymers. The high efficiency and orthogonality of the PFT click reaction also allow multiple thiols to be combined to precisely tailor the copolymer composition. Importantly, when using thiol excess, the pentafluorophenyl groups in PPFPTEMA are found to undergo multiple substitutions under mild conditions, offering an unprecedented level of synthetic flexibility for designing functional polymers. Overall, this work seamlessly integrates PFT click chemistry into the PIPOx platform, establishing a powerful modular framework for the precision synthesis of multifunctional polymers.

Polypyrrole-Coated Thermally Activated Carbon Cloth for High-Performing Solid-State Supercapacitors
Conducting polypyrrole (PPy) synthesized through oxidative chemical vapor deposition (oCVD) on thermally activated carbon cloth was utilized in producing a PPy-based electrode for high-performing supercapacitors. The PPy deposition time was varied at 30, 60, and 90 min, creating CPPy30, CPPy60, and CPPy90 active materials, and their electrochemical properties were studied. CPPy90 has the highest capacitance at 299.5 mF cm–2 (1497.7 mF cm–3) with its Raman spectra showing a high doping degree, which contributed to its good capacitive behavior. Symmetric (CPPy90//CPPy90) and asymmetric (AC//CPPy90) supercapacitors were fabricated as prototypes. CPPy90//CPPy90 exhibited a maximum capacitance of 46.0 mF cm–2 (115.0 mF cm–3) with an energy density of 4.1 mWh cm–2 (1.0 mWh cm–3) at a power density of 80 mW cm–2 (20 mW cm–3). The electrochemical capacitance of AC//CPPy90 was 168.2 mF cm–2 (560.6 mF cm–3) with an energy density of 15.0 mWh cm–2 (5.0 mWh cm–3) at 80 mW cm–2 (26.7 mW cm–3) power density. AC//CPPy90 has shown better energy storage performance than CPPy90//CPPy90. Therefore, in this study, the low impedance and high capacitance of oCVD-prepared CPPy90 have promoted the development of symmetric and asymmetric PPy-based supercapacitors with good electrochemical performance.

Effect of Elevated Air Humidity on the Structure and Proton Conductivity of Porphyrin-Based Zr(IV)-MOFs
Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) based on Zr6(μ3-O)8 oxometallic clusters are attracting attention as potential proton conductors due to their high surface area, ease of further substitution, and exceptional chemical stability. We hereby present an examination of two Zr(IV)-MOFs with a tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin (TCPP4–) linker, PCN-222 and PCN-224, as proton conductors. It was found that, in spite of their excellent stability in aqueous suspensions, in the environment of elevated air humidity, serious changes in their bonding system occur, mainly involving breakage of the carboxylate coordination bonds and hydration of the Zr6(μ3-O)8 clusters, which leads to gradual amorphization and loss of porous character. The stability of the structures can be improved by postsynthetic modification with diphenylphosphinic acid (DPPA) to some extent. Inclusion of host imidazole molecules facilitates proton mobility in the pore system of the MOFs, further accelerating the structural degradation. Even though the original structures of the MOFs collapse under the conditions of proton conductivity measurement, the resulting amorphous solids still reveal a proton conductivity up to 6.7 × 10–6 S·cm–1 at ambient temperature and a 92% relative humidity, which is comparable to that of other Zr(IV)-MOFs with well-preserved structures. The presented study demonstrates an important phenomenon that has to be considered with any investigation using MOFs as proton conductors.
