College flashback alert - saw the band L7 rock the Salt Shed in Chicago.

Spending the weekend at the annual jazz and blues fest happening at the Lake Geneva (WI) House of Music. Video clip is from Nikki Hill and her band.

Spent last weekend at the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend with a lot of great music to enjoy. Check out this one-man band Dollar Bill providing some John Lee Hooker-esque boogie blues to bop to.

Spent my Saturday night watching the SNL 50th anniversary Homecoming Concert on Peacock. My top moment, among many to choose from - Arcade Fire, David Byrne, and St. Vincent performing David Bowie's "Heroes", and then joined by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Epic.

Another jazzy flutist for your consideration, and for the more adventerous: Jeremy Steig. A sample of his song "Howlin' for Judy" from the 1970 album Legwork is looped throughout my favorite song from the Beastie Boys, "Sure Shot".

Following up on seeing Tammy McCann at the women's jazz fest in Arlington Heights, IL - she had earlier this week performed at NYC's Jazz at Lincoln Center jazz congress, with remembrances for guitarrist Russell Malone who passed away last summer. Saw Russell perform with Diana Krall back in 1999.

Final night of the 3rd annual Hey Nonny Women's Jazz Fest in Arlington Heights, IL was really special with outstqbding headliner Tammy McCann, bassist Marion Mallard and her great band, and young Juliard School student Julia Danielle backed by an amazing female trumpet player.

Great Friday night at Hey Nonny in Arlington Heights, IL having their 3rd annual womens' jazz fest this week. Enjoyed the amazing Alysha Monique and the Family Divine and Typhanie Monique celebrating the great female interpreters of jazz, past and present.

Wrapping up 2024 in the Palm Springs/Coachella Valley area. Spent my Saturday evening at The Purple Room enjoying great live jazz standards from the area ensemble Kevin Tokarz Quartet.

I visited NYC last October, and during my visit I enjoyed an evening at Birdland with two solid sets.

The early one was from the resident High Society New Orleans Jazz Band.

The late set featured veteran bassist Ron Carter on bass with Donald Vega on piano and Donald Harrison on alto sax.

At Hey Nonny in Arlington Heights, IL tonight to enjoy a wonderful holiday musical cabaret from The Peppermint Patties.

I will be back here JAN 10th and 11th for its 3rd annual Women's Jazz Fest, one of the very few fests of its kind. Definitely worth supporting.
