I can’t even feel anything. If I let myself start it will be too much.

I’ll put on all the layers, shovel the snow off the sidewalk. Maybe see a neighbor or two, nod sadly to each other.

I am here. Tentative. The dogs go on regardless of what the future brings.

I’m teaching them new tricks. It’s something to do.

Diving through the thick of the other side's hate needing to know how bad it was, it was hard to scrub off the stench, to believe that there was any chance of redemption.

But of course there is. That is why we are here, still breathing.

Every day everything feels different, even before getting up the air filling my lungs doesn’t taste the same anymore.
