Handmade paper structures like this pop-up frequently on my Pinterest feed. I decided to build and animate one procedurally. The hardest part was finding a correct pattern to instance and orient the hexagons in clusters of three.

Rings Of Spirangle Chains. Arrays of simple 2D shapes serve as the basis for the spirals which are then connected into a single curve.

Rolling Blobs. Started with a grid of squares, converted the outlines to curves, then trimmed each curve into multiple sections. Duplicated these sections inwards and rejoined them into new blobby shaped splines.
