Deborah's a sociologist, articulate, considerate, open about her research & her family and has a way of shifting between narrative and hard, sometimes uncomfortable facts. She spoke to the two central narrative arcs while weaving in a number of other interesting side bars - unpicked what it is to be an immigrant coming to a new culture, faced with issues of fitting into a new society with a different regulatory framework and language; - wove in the story of her dad's life as a Russian Jew who rebuilt his life in South Africa; running alongside the issues facing 2nd & 3rd generations, & the often apocryphal myths written about their experiences. The book is both a very personal biography of a loved one and an examination of the social parameters that the life played out in. A thoroughly worthwhile evening, my only disappointment - that I didn't have the time to get a signed copy. An unsigned one will have to do. This image ©ilinkcs (2025/11)

Poem: The Vamp's hearty seduction broth From my abundant herb garden I crush gingko & Maca & Tribulus terrestris (exactly 10 grams am a stickler for that the need is erotic not sloppy & fat!) add a single thin slice of ginseng nöugat exactly 1 cup of maiden's breast milk freshly expressed (not pumped to the fridge) mix to a paste let none go to waste! add chartreuse 2 tots & keep at low heat serve with a smirk in my little red skirt paired with a portion of the sculpture “Psyche Revived by Cupids Kiss” by Italian artist Antonio Canova first commissioned in 1787 by Colonel John Campbel, presently housed in the Michelangelo gallery at the Louvre in Paris. Poem: geography where are we? I trace my finger along a line not from where we stepped out but where we were when the battery died from there to the speculative here. the geography of the park laid bare on an old route map. I think I think were here but can't be sure. We sit and look out across the valley and realize how we got here is no longer important. We can't go back the sun has moved too far there's no longer time for that. What's important is where we go from here. We are the mirror of the 5 people closest to us in any ongoing circumstance. Those 5 people are the drift that pull up your anchor.
