When your loved one leaves you,
their presence no longer near
integrate their essence
and carry that with you

Poem: Love and Loss when your loved one passes their loss become an albatross draped heavily over you remember them and integrate their essence into your whole paired with a photo of a younger me and Margaret, three days out of Antarctica, for the first time discovering a life that was not white and cold. What I was thinking about that day was loss the loss of a loved one. Loss is hard, I know this through the long passage of my own life. What helped for me, in the loss of those closest to me, human or otherwise, is this: Finding ways to integrate their essence into my life, not their presence, (now an albatross) but their essence. I made the time to dedicate a period to them, find all the tells to their lives. Photographs were the easiest- found them and organized them, those became active triggers to memory. When other memories surfaced, I leaned into them in joy, not sorrow. I Re-visited our rituals together how they made me feel. Later when they surfaced, leaned into the feeling, not the loss. Recorded how they made me a better person & integrated all of that the cautionaries challenges betterments back into me. I found, in this doing their aura suffused me positively became part of my journey no longer a pull backward. They became what I'm sure is what they'd want me to be carrying their wisdom their love within me, not left behind, within in memorium mom, dad, and my lovely devoted Margaret, who, not having language, gave her love in service.
