Indie developer, mountain biker, car person. I spend my days working on Cascable. He/him.
This summer I passed the ten-year anniversary of launching the 1.0 of my app!

It's been a bumpy ride, but I took the time to celebrate and take pride in what I've been able to build.

Daniel Kennett - Ten Years of Being an Indie Developer
On June 17th, 2025 I happened to — for whatever reason — scroll to the bottom of Cascable Studio's version history page. Ten years! My wife and I shared a toast that evening, I made a snarky comment a...

My wife and I just finished playing through Split Fiction and I think it has to be the most creative video game I’ve played in… ever?

Such a refreshing change from a lot of the gaming landscape these days. Highly recommend!

“Guitar playing is really simple to get into - it’s a very versatile instrument, and all you need to get going is a cheap guitar (and a cheap amp if you go electric).”

Today's adventure in 3D printing: A box with buttons and switches! Oooooo.

This is effectively a footswitch remote control for a guitar pedal. The “official" one is approaching $100 (Boss FS-6), and I made this for around $20.

It's fun seeing everyone's Liquid Glass app updates. Excited to share a screenshot of mine!

Something I think gives away that I'm from "The North" of England (if not, at least that I'm British) is that I bought a $5 sponge in Canada, then after using it declaring:

"That's a good sponge, that.”

Then insisting we bring it home — on a bus across the US border, then on the plane from there.

I recently returned from a long, chaotic, once-in-a-lifetime trip to the US and Canada. Did an intensive week of guitar playing in the US, then lots of mountain biking in Canada.

The TSA sure did find my luggage interesting on my way through.

We made a Bluesky account for my apps, and we’re mostly using it to post cool photos. Feel free to give it a follow!

If you're in the EU, you should sign this petition to ban conversion practices in the EU - there's only a day or so left, and it's getting really close to going through. This is an official petition that'll be discussed in parliament if it passes.

Alright social media, I need your help!

I'm playing an open mic night in a month. Current LOCKED IN songs are:

Song 2 (Blur)
21 Guns (Green Day)

A pretty fun set so far.

It’s not gaming unless it’s *serious* gaming.

Does anyone who follows me have a reMarkable Paper Pro? Any opinions you’d like to share? I’ve been eyeing it for a while but I’m unsure about buying such a usecase-specific device.

I finally got my new guitar!

I call it “Taylor <The compiler is unable to type-check this expression in reasonable time>”

Watching guitar videos on YouTube counts as practising, right?

I was doing some research on a thing yesterday and found that Amazon had been stepping down the price every couple of days for the past couple of weeks. It was *far* cheaper than it should have been.

Ordered, and the price shot back up to where it should have been. Very odd. Still, cheap thing!

So comfy.

It gets real dry here in the winter, and I'm converting an IKEA cabinet into a humidity-controlled display cabinet so I don't have to lock my most fragile guitar (a classical) away.

My Les Paul looks pretty sick in there, though — especially if I add some illumination. I might be making two!

Daniel Kennett - Reviewing Every Pain au Chocolat in Guillestre

I've been mulling this over for a little while, and I've ended up adding an “AI Policy" page to my personal blog: ikennd.ac/ai/

I wanted to communicate that I don't use generative AI in my writing - and *why* - without sounding too sanctimonious. Happy to hear feedback on whether I managed that.
Daniel Kennett - AI Policy
Everything on this website that's written in my voice (i.e., I'm not quoting someone or something else) has been done so without the use of generative AI (ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, etc) at any point i...

“It’s such a shame half the audience are holding up their phones instead of experiencing the concert fully,” I think to myself while I’m watching a video of a concert recorded on someone’s phone to see how the guitarist is voicing the music.

As I rapidly approach 40 I'm finally (honestly, 20 years late) thinking about getting a will drafted up along with my wife.

I just wrote the phrase "If we die asynchronously" in an email to the lawyer, which tickled me — it's delightfully programmer-y, but perfectly describes what I mean.
