the asteroid to kill x11 seems to be off-orbit.

while this is generally good, unfortunately E16 was made way before Wayland was a thing (1997). hence, when i choose to switch, i will either have to abandon it, or rewrite it myself.

The advent of LLMs, reliance on unaudited and massive dependency trees and the spectre of capitalism is haunting information security. It's pretty easy to have missed some fundamental emergent behaviours.

Castiglione observed that every generation says its youthful days were best and complains that the new era and young people suck, and he was already mocking it in (checks notes) 1520.
Wasn’t there actual research showing that, for every generation, the decade they choose as “things were better then” always happens to coincide with when they were twelve years old?

1. Yesterday, the press gave Gavin Newsom favorable coverage for signing pro-LGBTQ+ bills.

Little noticed, however, was that he vetoed one of the most important ones: a bill allowing trans people 12 month HRT stockpiles, protecting them from federal threats.

The bill would have allowed transgender people to maintain a safe supply of medication in the era of government crackdowns on care.

I'm getting a little upset at people who parrot "unused RAM is wasted RAM". the real answer is: yes, but not in the way you'd think.

amazingly, the operating system *already* uses the 'unused' RAM as file system cache.

but the cache is dropped as soon as an user-mode app demands memory.
