This is one of the things that I find is most shocking to people outside Minnesota who don’t realize it yet—the scale at which everyone who isn’t white has been forced into a spectrum of hiding.

Today my little sister would be 15 years old. Instead, cancer took her life when she was 10.

I don’t make it a secret that I miss her a lot. I grieve for her all the time and it doesn’t really feel like the pain’s gotten much more bearable.
