Day 28 of #Webruary
Peter Parker

I get why the best Spidey stories mostly center around high school, but when I started reading comic books in the 80’s and 90’s, he was depicted in his mid-twenties and married.

That’s a wrap on Webruary! Thanks for taking a look.

Patrick O’Hara

The Web-Slinger! I aimed for a pulp novel cover look for this one, and it took twice as long as I expected.

Jess Drew

The second version of this character on the list, this one hails from the Spider-Verse movies. I found some awesome cosplay by @afrococoapuffs.bsky.social to serve as reference.

Day 25 of #Webruary
Night Monkey

Far From Home used a great twist on the traditional black Spider-Man suit with this stealth number. Movie costume designers do incredible work, packing detail and texture to make even an all-black number like this visually interesting on screen.

Day 24 of #Webruary
Cyborg Spider-Man

This is a callback to a very specific comic book storyline, in all its early 90’s absurdity. The whole design was a self-aware joke to let Erik Larsen, a prominent Spidey artist, cut loose with the hallmark excesses that defined the era. Pouches!

Day 23 of #Webruary
Ezekiel Sims

I remember this character, but I have no real affinity for him. The original version was basically just a middle-aged rich guy with spider powers running around in a business suit with no shoes. So I tried to lean into the portraiture of it.

Day 21 of #Webruary
Peni Parker

I’ve never been a manga guy. I respect the art form; it’s just never been my bag. So I think this is my first attempt at the art style, which felt a little like working with somebody else’s hands!

Day 20 of #Webruary
Silk

So I probably should’ve included the whole face, not just the lower masked half. But my goal with this one was to convey form and posture with very limited visual information. I dunno, it was fun to try.

Day 19 of #Webruary
Scarlet Spider

It’s been fun trying out other media, but I’m definitely most comfortable in acrylics. I based this one on some awesome cosplay work by @stigerman613 (on IG).

Day 18 of #Webruary
Lady Spider

I was not familiar with this steampunk alternate universe Aunt May. But I wanted to try a medium appropriate to the subject, so I risked another go at pen and ink. Well… brush and ink. I hoped a familiar tool might help.

Day 17 of #Webruary
Black Suit

I held a notion that I would do this one in pen and ink, and in a loose homage to one of the most classic Spider-Man covers. But I forgot that I lack either pen and ink skills or perspective drawing patience, and wound up painting over it all with acrylic.

Day 16 of #Webruary
Pavitr Prabhakar

I don’t know why I thought watercolor was a good idea for this one, the color-on-color patterns would’ve been waaaaay easier with acrylic.

Day 14 of #Webruary
Ghost-Spider

Maybe more popularly known as Spider-Gwen. I debated leaving the eyes flat white, in keeping with the character’s usual aesthetic. But I’m a sucker for reflective surfaces :)

Hybrid Suit

This was the suit worn by Tom Holland for the back half of No Way Home. I like painting contiguous surfaces where the texture and reflectivity changes.

Anya Corazón

The Madame Web movie was truly one of the worst piles of crap to which humanity has been subjected. The only halfway-watchable thirty seconds were the future vision of the three Spider-Women in costume, including Anya, here.

Day 10 of #Webruary
Mayday

Since I wanted to go with the baby version of May “Mayday” Parker, I broke out a medium that I used many times for baby portraits in the past: watercolor with a little colored pencil to tighten it up. I am… very out of practice.
