I'm old enough to remember the nascent commercial Internet of the early 90's. Like the evergreen myth of the "paperless" office, the Internet version was the elimination of the "middleman". I had my doubts then; now it's turbocharged "middlemen" and "parasites" and there's non-zero overlap.

I renewed my Virgin broadband today; tbh I'm not ecstatic about my new price (50p per month more than before) it's a 37% discount on the "full" price so I guess that's a win. The chap I spoke to (Andrew) seemed nice, so I don't begrudge the bonus he probably got for me taking his first offer! 🤷‍♂️

"Not having a smartphone is a death sentence for your social life and career. " via Reddit

Well... it seems to me the degree to which that is or isn't true has very little to do with the phone.

I'd translate that as "Someone is chipping away at our walled garden and we don't like it." It's great to see it!

@calvindyson.bsky.social I too have a soft spot for the idea of a returning PB, but he's too old isn't he... I mean, surely, maybe... it'd still be great though wouldn't it! Personally I'd like a return to 60's Bond with a luscious Ken Adams mid-century modern world! We can all dream I guess.
