The Massachusetts governor, the city, and the university needs to drop everything to locate and free this girl and make sure this doesn't happen again.

This is DEFCON-1. If they do this to someone who wrote an op-ed in a college newspaper, they will do this to anyone they don't like.
Video of the international student at Tufts being arrested by "federal authorities" in Massachusetts has been released and it's terrifying.

They're not even uniformed officers. Just secret police thugs in hoodies and masks.

The transcript of the interview between Stanton/Sherman and Savannah's Black leaders is one of my favorite sources to teach Reconstruction with. It was a treat to find the spot where it happened.

10 years in, I remain beyond grateful for my 4-4 tenured gig.

But the issues of access and networking are real. Received yesterday another list of journals we're losing access to; professional society dues come out of pocket; and conference travel funds will cover about a tank of gas and a meal.
There’s so many highly qualified PhDs minted these days that getting a job at an R1 versus a 4-4 teaching place is pretty much random. Then inequality in access to resources, networks, etc. leads to divergent career outcomes. So, if you’re at a 4-4 don’t compare your output to people at R1s.

Today's lesson with my American history survey students on how to connect the past with the present featured this article by Eric Foner on the uniquely American history of mass deportations:
www.thenation.com/article/soci...
America Has Done Mass Deportation Before
From the Indian Removal Act of 1830 to the deportation of Mexican-Americans during the Great Depression, Trump can easily find precedents for his policy. None of them ended well.
