Yes, Henry Cavill is a great ambassador for the hobby, however, Peter Cushing would be my personal choice for 'Warmaster of Wargaming.'

If I'm not wrong, I believe he has a copy of HG Wells' 'Little Wars' in the last photograph too. 👍
Stargrave:

I finished this kitbashed Empire auto turret.
I'm hoping to kitbash everything I need for all the scenarios in the main rulebook, rather than buy stuff, although I do have a couple of items I've got my eyes on. 😶

Quick hobby update:

I was invited to join the Warlord Games influencer program, which I of course accepted. I'm incredibly lucky for the opportunity.

I should point out I'm not paid or restricted as to what I can post, e.g. here's a WIP Stargrave auto-turret I'm working on. 👍

Thank you very much to Jim Butler & @warlordgames.com For sending out the 3rd Edition rulebook, 3rd Edition Armies of the Soviet Union and a Red Star Rising Starter Army. It's very much appreciated and I cannot wait to start building!

Konflikt 47:

I painted up another 6-man squad of US Inf for my K47 army. I really enjoy painting WW2 miniatures, which I didn't think I would. I also love the faces of these chaps, so much character!
I particularly like the head of the bloke with the BAR, having a sly fag.👍

Stargrave:

I made a second tile. I'm pretty happy with the results, so I'll pick up some more at some point, once I've planned out what I want.

For starters I'll want a bridge, engineering, canteen and some adjoining corridors... 🤔

Stargrave:

I've got the Stargrave rulebook on the way, so I decided to paint a large test tile (A cork placemat! 😅). 25mm base for scale.

I wanted to do an Alien style spacecraft interior. So I added plenty of grime and spillage, as well as a concerning blood splatter! 😳

The 42nd (Highland) Regiment of Foot, or simply the Black Watch, are my second favourite painted Regiment. I enjoyed painting them so much, I decided to take 2 four base units and amalgamated them into one (minus the second command base ofc). 👍

This is massive news!

Congratulations @warlordgames.com

Of all the Warlord Epic Scale minis I've painted, I think the 95th Rifles are my favourite. They're such an iconic unit, and one that featured in so many people's teens, thanks to Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe series. It's the reason I had to feature a Sharpe & Harper in my unit!

Painting skin.

•Base layer Tanned Flesh.

•1:1 Wash of Strong Tone & water.

•Layer of Barbarian Flesh on cheekbones, chin, fingers.

•1:1 Barbarian Flesh & Matt White to pick out knuckles, nose tip, cheekbones.

•watered down Alien Purple on wrists, ears & cheek recesses.

The Flames of War V1 is finished. What a nice little palette cleanser and something a bit different. 👍

Next up: I've got a free sprue of Warlord US Inf with a recent purchase, so I'll paint them up and add them to my K47 US army.
November 21, 2025 at 6:34 AM
After almost 10 years of sitting in a box, I decided to start painting a Flames of War V1.

It's now primed and ready for some colour. 👍

19th Nov 1942, Stalingrad.

The Soviet Army launched Operation Uranus, which involved over 1 million men, 750+ tanks & 10k+ artillery pieces. Stalingrad is surrounded, cutting off the Germans forces inside the city. It takes a further 3 months before the city is in Soviet hands.

Stalingrad Project progress:

This is everything I've painted over the past 10 days & totals around 30 hours work. That's from roughly 2 hours on the weekdays & 4/5 hours on the weekend.

I've enjoyed painting these new @warlordgames.com Soviets & I'm excited to paint some more!

1/ Stalingrad Project:

I finished my first ever Warlord Games vehicle; IS-2 Heavy Tank for my Soviet army.

It's a really good kit and was easy to assemble. I'm really happy with the end result.

I'm planning to have one tank with each Inf platoon.

More close up photos below.

Stalingrad Project:

'C' Squad, 357th Rifle Regiment are now finished.

I intend to have 4 squads to a platoon, and then 3 platoons to finish the 1st Company. So I'll get 3 more Sovient infantry boxes at some point. And then I'll get 3x T34s for armoured support.

Good fun! 👍

Stalingrad Project:

Had a spare Soviet left over from this current platoon build. I decided to make the Hero of the Soviet Union, Vasily Zaytsev.

I still need to get some Green Stuff and fill in some gaps etc. He'll just be a regular sniper in the next platoon I make. 👍

Stalingrad Project WIP:

This is my first @warlordgames.com
Bolt Action tank ever! And I'm having a blast!

Quick WIP of the IS-2. The main body is painted, washed and highlighted. Decals are on. I'll pick out the details next and then I'll start weathering it.

More tomorrow. 👍

Stalingrad Project:

While I'm well aware that the IS-2 wasn't produced until later in the war, I'm having one in my Soviet Stalingrad army because it looks cool and it means I can use it for other scenarios such as the Battle of Berlin. 👍
November 14, 2025 at 6:39 AM
Stalingrad Project:

The final Political Officer is finished. I like the fact that Warlord's WW2 range are very interchangeable. With that in mind, the left hand is from the German Fallschirmjäger (winter) sprue. 👍

Question for hobbyists:

How do you stop your paintbrushes from getting hooked tips at the end of the bristles?

I've painted for years and no matter how well I wash my brushes, after a few months of constant use, the tips always end up hooked!

What's the best ways you've found to combat this?
November 12, 2025 at 10:11 AM
Stalingrad Project:

'B' Squad, 357th Rifle Regiment, are now finished. I'm very much enjoying painting these ladies and gents.
My only grumble would be there are female heads in soft hats, but none in helmets. But it's not really a big issue. 👍

Miniatures from @warlordgames.com.

First photo: My Great Great Uncle, KIA on the last day of WW1.

Second photo: top left, my Great Uncle. Top right, my Grandad. Bottom left, My Mum. Bottom right, Me.

Third photo: My Dad.

At the setting of the sun we will remember them.

For all who served.

Stalingrad Project:

Sniper team & Political Officer are finished. I'm so happy included an option to build snipers, having recently rewatched 'Enemy at the Gates', I was very much inspired to make some. Also, the Political Officer looks a bit like Joseph Fiennes character too!
November 11, 2025 at 7:18 AM
Stalingrad Project:

'A' Squad, 1st Platoon, 357th Rifle Regiment are finished.

I'm loving these new Soviet @warlordgames.com minis. There are plenty of body & weapon options & enough different heads to add variety too.

I'm going to do a sniper team & another Political Officer. 👍
