New Illustration: "We Beat 'Em Before..."

Taken from a British WW2 poster, the original features a WW1 German soldier at the top. I just swapped it for the Nazi soldier it had at the bottom.

In 2003 I showed my parents Skype and helped my relatives set it up so that my parents didn’t have to pay predatory long-distance phone fees.

20 years later I don’t want to introduce them to the latest tech because it’s all stealing their data, and in the case of gen AI it could misinform them.

Politicians should have to take an empathy test before they get sworn in. Y’all can be certain Trump wouldn’t pass the Voight-Kampff.

“Historically, the police have been on the wrong side of history during the civil rights movement and the labor movement. The pivotal points in American history are when police realized that their solidarity should be with labor, not capital.”

I haven't seen people here mention this letter from the mayor of Illinois' 2nd-largest city (Aurora, 40+% Latino)

to the Aurora Police

following egregious attacks by immigration in Aurora and related protests

So here it is!

For a long time now, I’ve wondered what motivates all the transphobia we’re seeing today. This explanation certainly lines up with what I’ve seen. People who are happy with themselves aren’t out there fighting against trans rights.

I got bullied earlier this week by defenders of the other parties when I pointed out that both sides of the Commons stood and celebrated. I’m glad that the NDP held fast to their principles and did not participate in the ovation.
Statement from MP Jenny Kwan, said that none of NDP’s MPs participated in the standing ovation. Kwan denounces political violence, but “anyone with a platform should always be mindful that political rhetoric that is incendiary, racist and dehumanizing is unacceptable.” thetyee.ca/News/2025/09...

Bill C-2, the Carney Liberals’ first real bill, is a dangerous concession to the US, whose current administration is threatening our sovereignty. Conceding more power to bullies won’t make them stop. It will only encourage them. Whatever happened to “elbows up?”
3/ Bill C-2 opens the door to U.S. access to Canadians’ data.

In a post-Roe America, where abortion & LGBTQ2IA+ rights are under attack, this is profoundly dangerous.
Canadians must not have their personal medical records exposed to foreign governments. #cdnpoli

Whether we vote Liberal or Conservative, they’re both deeply in bed with the fascists down south. But there is a third way, Canada.

Protect trans folks.
Btw, I remember there being some anxieties around folks expressing their opinions during primaries.

Besides being nowhere near a presidential primary at the moment, now is in fact the time for people to express certain lines they expect candidates not to cross.

Protect trans folks.

This feels like elbows-down. Giving up our lunch money to the bully so they’ll stop beating us. The US has proven itself to be an unstable ally and we need to grow more independent and look for new trade deals elsewhere, with countries we can rely on.

"Canada currently has the best trade deal with the United States. And while it's different from what we had before, it is still better than that of any other country," says PM Carney, announcing Canada will drop retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods that comply with CUSMA.

I’m running out of time to be interesting, spending what little I have working to pay the bills now and in the future when I can’t work any more. Maybe I’ll have time to be interesting after work, but will I have the health?

When I heard about this deal, I also thought it was a good idea from the perspective that we’re competing with US treasury bonds for the same investor dollars. Of course, if the opposite happens and the Canadian economy tanks in relation to the US, it will be terrible. I’m excited to find out.
Kudos Mark Carney 🇨🇦
Canada issues new 5 year Canadian bonds $3.5 billion, but sold the bonds in US dollars. The bonds were 4 times oversubscribed, so there appears to be no lack of confidence in the Canadian economy. #cdnpoli
