So they gave a sex trafficker a job in an agency whose description is kidnapping vulnerable people?

"Teen-focused financial app" is a phrase invented by Satan.

Fair enough! I discovered Neopets at 12 so I just waited a few months, which also means I'm remembering from over 20 years ago now.

If I remember right it was specifically the in-character roleplay forum that was 13+ (the other forums on neopets had whatever minimum age limit the site itself had), but even then nobody was using it to roleplay sex and I wouldn't be surprised if that filter also applied there.

...Neopets is a site for children. I think you had to be 13 years old to join the roleplay forums, and all content was supposed to be appropriate for 13 year olds.

Mark Carney just gave a speech where he admits this outright, which was a wild thing to see from one of the USA's closest historical allies.

Judging by last time, there'll only be an adult in charge for 4 years before there's an infant in charge again.

The levels in the original Super Mario were also numbered on the screen and didn't have names beyond that (and their themes looped), so people talk about World 1-3 or 8-4 or whatever. The only game I can think of that still exclusively uses numbers is Tetris.

I'm pretty sure the people writing these commercials only remember videogames from old arcades. Bragging about making it to level 7 makes sense if the game is Pac-Man or Donkey Kong, where the levels are nearly identical (or loop) and the number you got to was how you measured progress.

After he failed to do military service? What a coincidence, his grandson did the same thing.

Expelled from the US? Who's supposed to take him when he's been actively threatening other countries?

Still compulsively bipartisan 15 years later. Never been more disappointed in a US president. Campaign Obama and President Obama were nothing like each other.
January 25, 2026 at 5:31 PM
It only took them 25 years to realize that the primary domestic US response to 9/11 was establishing and entrenching massive government overreach? There's a reason Obama campaigned on ending the PATRIOT Act (and then refused to do it once he was in power).

That surprises me, but I live in one of the most multicultural areas of the country.

Well it definitely has bad guys (if there are ones that look or act like Nazis, that's usually a good indicator that they're the bad guys). Jury's still out on whether there are good guys, though.

They mostly justify it using conspiracy theories about the English-speaking majority of the rest of Canada secretly planning to exterminate French-Canadian language and culture (which means they should be doing the same thing to their own minority languages and cultures in order to impose French).
January 19, 2026 at 1:39 PM
That's largely a Quebec thing, although it's present in Alberta as well. Quebec is constantly breaking the Canadian constitution (and getting away with it using the notwithstanding clause) in order to make laws imposing French language and culture on everyone in the province.

Sure, but a lot of them think the same about people from Canada or Europe, for example. I've met a staggering number of Americans who think their country is the only one that enjoys basic freedoms and democracy.

And then we get his original name after he's retconned/revealed to actually be an alien, and that one *is* a pun.

I got the joke with Payne being Pain right away when I first played it more than 15 years ago, but I didn't get the joke about his full name being "Winced In Pain" until just now.
