Next week, Belarus' #humanrights record will be examined as part of the UN Universal Periodic Review. In August, HRHF supported representatives of Belarusian civil society to present an overview of violations and recommendations to states ahead of the UPR.

It has been one and a half years since Anar Mammadli was detained in #Azerbaijan as reprisal for his election observation and #humanrights work. His detention is part of a worsening human rights situation in the country, marked by politically-motivated detentions.

Today, Azerbaijani Journalist and photographer Ulviyya Ali spends her birthday behind bars in Azerbaijan. She has been detained on spurious smuggling charges since 8 May 2025. HRHF continues to call for her release and for all political prisoners in the country.

Ukrainian journalist and human rights defender Maksym Butkevych has been awarded the 2025 Václav Havel Prize.

Two other journalists, from Georgia and Azerbaijan, were runners-up for the Prize, which honours action to defend human rights worldwide.
