What are we doing at @cop30brazil.bsky.social?

Our best weapon against climate change is clear, evidence-based understanding of the actions available, and COP30 is a chance to share our research with policymakers and international representatives. @shaunfitzgerald.bsky.social @hughhunt.bsky.social

Our new seminar series is starting soon! This is a chance to discover climate repair, explore research happening right now, and consider the big questions around it all. The first, on Thursday 16th October, will have Prof @hughhunt.bsky.social and Clara Botto introducing this big and timely topic.

Important thoughts on #srm from @bodansk.bsky.social and @suebiniaz
As interest in solar radiation management has grown, so have calls for a global deployment moratorium.

With #DGF2025 underway in Cape Town, Susan Biniaz and @bodansk.bsky.social argue for a better path:

A bottom-up, norm-setting approach that addresses concerns w/o stalling critical research:
Why a Global “Moratorium” on Solar Radiation Management Deployment Should Get a Chilly Reception
A bottom-up norm-setting approach would rectify the concerns of agreeing to a global moratorium on solar radiation management deployment.

Active travel can help tackle the climate crisis earlier than electric vehicles – even if you swap the car for a bike for just one trip a day.

ABC, NBC & CBS dedicated about 16 minutes of airtime last night to the California wildfires without once mentioning climate change.

Since the news failed do it's job, here's a short summary of the role of climate change and wildfire risk:

Worth noting that it doesn't take a moratorium to drag renewables growth to an effective halt. Texas' last legislative session included an array of bills (most of which did not pass) that would have made new renewables difficult or impossible to build. heatmap.news/plus/the-fig...

shame that the NYT wrote about science to detect geoengineering — and didn't mention that we are about to have a massive loss in our capacity to monitor the changing stratosphere due to aging satellites going out of service and not having ready replacements

simulated:

but with no chalk the ball slips which slows it down
