“This game is like A Link to the Past, but not as good” is a common and lame critique. So, it’s not as good as one of the best games ever made? Wow! Weird!

I’m trying to wrap up a few more ‘25 releases before the end of the year, but I’m thinking I could probably put together a top 30-50 (?) fairly easily. It’s been a great year for playing games, if you think otherwise…maybe find a new hobby 😉

It’s been a great year for updated versions of some JRPG classics:
Suikoden I+II, Lunar Collection, Saga Frontier 2, Raidou, Trails FC, FF Tactics, Dragon Quest I+II…good night!

Promise Mascot Agency is another 2025 game that’s getting slept on that people should check out. It’s one of those “PS2” games that plays/feels like you remember and not reality. Definitely worth checking out for the vibes and weirdness alone + the gameplay loop rocks.

I’ve never loved Half-Life as much as others and putting some thought into it I realized the gunplay just feels bad to me, far behind other shooters even of the time.

@psvg.net didn’t hear you mention it on the podcast(s) but know you’re into golf/retro sports. This one is solid fun:

I’m sure Clair Obscur will clean up at TGA - and it deserves all the accolades- but one category it’s not the best in is RPG. Other games nominated are just better “role-playing” experiences.

I firmly believe that tea should taste like warm sugar cereal milk.

The statement at the bottom of the bottle is one of the most “no bleep” things I’ve seen in recent memory. You’re literally spraying your face with water.

I love the Monument Valley games and it’s awesome to see III finally freed from Apple’s grasp on the App Store! This game was meant to be played on mobile hardware, can’t wait to dig deeper. UsTwo simply doesn’t miss.

Öoo being missed by so many people makes me sad. It’s an immaculately designed 2d platform-puzzler from the same creator as ElecHead. It only takes a couple of hours to beat and never runs out of clever ideas/mechanics. Please check this little gem out!

People saying Prime 4 is on the same level graphically as Halo 4 don’t seem to realize the complement this is. Halo 4 was and still is stunning.

“Hot take”: I’ll take Mackenzie over Atreus, Ellie, or Aloy talking to herself any day.

When someone says “the HDR in this game is broken” I just nod my head and think inside that idk wtf they’re talking about. Glad I’m a tech dummy or blind to this I guess!

London is really cool and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Two shows this holiday visit, great eats, tons of walking = ya boy thankful

Big marriage milestone yesterday: My wife told me she understood why I kept telling her to use WASD over arrow keys. #feelsgoodman

Not “warring” but PS5 might be my least favorite console I’ve owned…ever? I don’t think I’ve played a major console less than this. It’s an exclusives machine and that’s been sadly lacking.

Probably complained about this before, but it keeps coming up so…I understand people use “like” in speech, crutch or otherwise, but now I’m seeing people writing it and even starting full sentences with it and I’m not sure what reality I live in.

I see a lot of negative chatter about the Switch 2 and its first party lineup this year and I shake my head. I’ve had a ton of fun with it, Hyrule Warriors being my current jam and looking forward to Metroid Prime 4. Hating everything can’t be a fun way to live yo

Three great releases cements Obsidian as the dev/studio of the year, certainly one of the most consistent doing it at this level.

Smashing a button to open a door, move a board, open a chest, etc. Annoying and adds nothing beneficial to a game. Immersion can be accomplished elsewhere, I know there’s so many smart ideas waiting to be implemented!

Forcing players to read notes/journals/book or listen to audio logs will always be a poor storytelling mechanic.
