In a globalized world, worker power is reduced and needs other interventions beyond theoretical bargaining power (see: the Loblaw's strike of 2020). Also, I'm not for public $$ subsidizing creation of more surplus revenue by giving corps the excuse that people don't need higher wages b/c UBI.

As I often say, we shouldn't have to make the economic argument for human dignity, but conveniently, there it is.🤷‍♂️

2/ Also, the total program cost is +/- what homelessness cost Canadian taxpayers *in 2007* (Gaetz, 2012) and they didn't look at reductions in social services costs, so it's likely this program would be revenue neutral-to-positive.

1/ With the heavy caveat that I don't ever think UBI can succeed without structures like high minimum wage and rent control, I'm glad the work is being done by the PBO to quantify this. Cutting poverty rates by 40% feels like a good start.
