..Our book is an attempt to revive a dialogue between archaeology and anthropology, which has been dormant since the 1960s, and an invitation to think differently about the course of human history: an experiment, in which we hope many others will join us."

On this day, 485 years ago, Thomas Cromwell was executed. A compelling yet flawed politician, portrayed with sensitivity in Mantel’s trilogy and in Mark Rylance’s film version. I am captivated by him in so many ways.

I am happy to express my birthday wishes to Professor Peter R. L. Brown who will enter his 90th year of a very full life tomorrow, the 26th of July. Though we have never formally met, he is a scholar’s hero, a vir doctissimus, to me. His work has been my guide for what historical scholarship is!!
